My Reflections for term 1

WALT: relate on our learning.

My Reflections for term 1

This week we had to do three e-asttle tests. I was nervous at first because I hadn't done an e-asttle test for a few months.

For reading my overall result was 4P. I did not expect to get a 4P on my reading so I was really happy. One of my strengths for reading was making conclusions or an assumptions.  The gaps I had for reading were to explore what the author wrote and question and use important information to show understanding. I am going to read more books during the holidays to get better in reading and hopefully in the next e-asttle test I get a 4A or maybe even a 5B.

For geometry and statistics my overall results was 4B.  I did really well on  angles, symmetry, lines and reading graphs. I really need to learn how to describe 2D and 3D shapes. I am where I should be but I would like to get a 4A  in the next e-asttle test and to reach my goal I am going to play geometry and statistics maths games during the holidays.

My overall results for measurement and number was 4B. My strengths were finding a fraction or percentage of an amount and use rule to make predictions. My gaps on measurement and number were to make a pattern and give rule for general term in words or symbols and find common factors and multiple. I am going to do more homework for measurement and number and hopefully get to level 4P or 4A.

Next term I would hopefully achieve my goals and get a good half year report.

Toy

WALT: make a toy.

The first thing I did was research and then plan. I couldn't decide between a helicopter and a buzzy bee so I chose to mix both idea to one toy. I used a coke bottle, five spoons, two cds, wood and  a string. I was easy to get the materials because I used recycled things. It was a easy toy to make because my plan was simple so I didn’t need any help. My mechanism was wheel and axles. After I made my toy I learned how easy to make a fun and creative toy with the things you have at home. During the holidays a plan to make another toy and this time with screws and wedge\\

Food Technology

WALT: make food around the world.

I really enjoyed food technology because it was really interesting to make and try out different food for all around the world. The food I really liked making was the burgers from America  even though I  didn't have any meat in it because I am muslim. The food I didn't really like was the chop suey that came from Tonga because it had unusual taste. I tried baking at home rich chocolate tarts and it was success.I would like to make a something from India like chicken tandoori.

Art

WALT: integrate top and art

In art we are painting toys since our topic this term is toys.I had to search on the internet. I had chosen a buzzy bee toy because it was a traditional New Zealand toy. After I had chosen my toy I sketched it. When I finished sketching I started painting the background and left it to dry. The next week I finished painting my toy. I really enjoyed learning new techniques. Next I would like to learn how to paint more sophisticated drawings with more new techniques.

Integer slam

Integer slam

In this game you will need 2-4 players. To win you will need to get three  cards that add up to 12 or -12. Remember that the red cards are negative and black cards are positive.
First, a person deals each player three cards and turns the top card of the remaining pile face up. If the next person’s card does not add up to 12 or -12 then they have to pick another card from the discard pile. After the person has picked up another card then they have to put a card from their hands next to the isard pile. The winner is the first person to put down three cars that add up to 12 or -12.  Enjoy!

Fun, Caring and Innovative Environment

Fun, Caring and Innovative Environment

My siblings and I have been coming to Glen Innes School for 6 years and I can confidently say that our school is a fun, caring and innovative environment and I am going to explain why?

Glen Innes School is a caring environment because if a child doesn't bring lunch to school a staff member makes lunch for them while in other schools if you don't have lunch they ring the child's parents and ask them why they  didn't bring lunch and the child stays hungry for the rest of the day.

Our school is  a fun environment because we have our own pool not like other schools that have to travel to just have a swim. Every morning our class goes swimming and sometimes we even get swimming coaches to teach us swimming isn’t that fun. Our school is so fun because each year we have G.I’s got talent so children have an opportunity to show off their talent.

Our school is an innovative school because we have netbooks. I think having your own netbook unique because there are only a few schools in New Zealand who has netbook. Other children in other schools don't have the opportunity to learn as much new things as we do because when having your netbook learning new things is just a click away.

In conclusion I think that Glen Innes school is a fun, caring and innovative school because the teachers  respond immediately to the children’s needs. Our school is fun because we have our own swimming pool. We are innovative because we have netbooks
