Sphinx

What is a Sphinx

A Sphinx is an ancient Egyptian stone figure that has a lion's body and a humans or animals head. It is found in in giza in egypt. The Great Sphinx was built in approximately 2500 BC by the pharaoh Khafra. The Great Sphinx is a large human-headed lion that was carved from a mound of natural rock. It is located in Giza where it guards the front of Khafra'.
Some people believe that there are hidden passageways or rooms underneath the Great Sphinx, but nothing has been found yet.
The beginning of one story about the Great Sphinx is written  between the sphinx's paws.
The story reads that one day, a young prince fell asleep next to the Great Sphinx. He had been hunting all day, and was very tired. He dreamt that the Great Sphinx promised that he would become the ruler of Upper and Lower Egypt if he cleared away the sand covering its body.
The rest of the story is gone, so you will have to use your imagination to work out the ending.

Collage

Today we chose a outline of the thing we liked and then insert all my pictures and made a collage.
I chose to make a collage of a I pod generation 5 but it turned out like a box.

Random or not?

In this game I had to find the longest sequence pattern. At the beginning I found this game really hard but it was really easy when I played the game and then I reread it again. The challenging thing was when I had to reread the instructions over and over again.  Next I would like to learn how to make a graph out of the sequence.

Uncle Eru

Uncle Eru is an interesting character in the story called “ The argument.  He displays several qualities which make him an interesting character.  Uncle Eru is a middle aged person. This is evident because he is allowed to drink alcohol and smoke dope. Uncle Eru is also a ignorant person.  We witness this when he didn't listen to his dad aka Karo.  Lastly, Uncle Eru is a strong person mentally.  The author shows this when he loses his hand but he still moves on with his life even though his hope of becoming and all black is ruined.  This essay will show that Uncle Eru possesses the three qualities just mentioned.  This essay will also show how the examples just mentioned show unique qualities.

Types of collars children want for sports camp t-shirts

In my maths group we had to carry a statistical survey of children in Glen Innes School. I decided to collect data of what types of collars children want for our sports camp t-shirts. After I had 50 childrens opinion I fed the information into the internet and turned it to a pie graph, bar graph and then a line graph.  From my graphs I have found out that the most popular collar was polo and the most unpopular collar was the wing.
54% of children liked the polo which is more than half and only 8% of children liked the wing.

Papa’s Pizzeria

WALT:make and serve pizzas as fast as we can

Papa’s Pizzeria
I  really liked this game because you had to make pizzas in a certain time. I think that this game was really challenging game for me because I had to work really fast. The part where it was the most time consuming was when i had to take orders and I had to wait for the people to tell me what they wanted and I think that part took half of the game time. I would really like to play another game like this but maybe next time I could make another type of food.

Kate Sheppard

Kate Sheppard

I am inspired by Kate Sheppard because she stood up for women and made a big difference to our way of living today. Katherine Wilson Sheppard was the most prominent member of New Zealand's women's suffrage (the movement to allow women to vote in New Zealand). She also appears on the NZ ten dollar note because of what she did.

New Zealand was the first country in 1983 to introduce universal suffrage because of Kates commitment and sacrifice. Kate's work had an impact on women's suffrage in other countries too.I am inspired by her perseverance and her hard work.

She really inspires me because she stood up for women's rights and she made a huge difference not just in New Zealand but in other countries too. Over the next several years, Kate support women's rights issues from the right to divorce, to the guardianship of children and the abolishment of corsets.

Speaking for a new generation, she argued, ‘We are tired of having a “sphere” doled out to us, and of being told that anything outside that sphere is “unwomanly”.’
Kate travelled the country, writing to newspapers, holding public meetings and lobbying members of Parliament. Opposition was fierce.

As Wellington resident Henry Wright wrote, women were ‘recommended to go home, look after their children, cook their husbands’ dinners, empty the slopes, and generally attend to the domestic affairs for which Nature designed them they should give up”,  but Kate never gave up and her husband supported her in every movement she took which made her even stronger. Kate accepted every challenge people gave her and stayed focus.

The Skin Story

Sara’s experience

“Sara put on sunscreen before you go to the beach” yelled Sara’s mum,
“No mum don't worry I will be ok” shouted Sara
It was summer and Sara and her family was having fun at the beach. Sara played in the beach and had lots of fun but her mum kept on telling her to put on sunscreen but she didn't listen because she thought that putting sunscreen on wouldn't help her.

The afternoon when Sara came home she was feeling very well, skin was burning and it was very red. Sara went and told her mum about it and her mum looked at her and saw a mole on her cheek. Sara’s mum took her to the doctors and they examined her. The  doctors told sara and her mum that she had skin cancer. Sara and her mum was very shocked and upset, they looked like they were about to cry. Then Sarah’s mum cried and said to Sara “ I told you to put on sunscreen before you go out in the sun, but you did not listen and now this is your punishment”. Sara started crying and then she asked the doctor “ am I going to die?”.
“ No your not going to die don't worry we will make sure your ok, so now you have to go to starship for a while ok” the doctor said calmly trying to calm them down.
When Sara and her mum went to the hospital the pediatrician told her that she is going to be ok because she came in the right time.

Five months later the cancer was gone but the doctors said that it could come back again.
Sara always puted sunscreen every time she went out and even sometimes when she was at home. She even told her friends and family about her experience.

maths millionaire

This game was a little bit hard because I had to work out fraction problems in a short amount of time. to play this game well you have to have good multiplication skills. I would like more fraction games like this so I could get better and faster at multiplying fraction.

basketball poem

Basketball is my favourite sport I dribble up and down the courtJump stop, Pivot and swish until I hear the hootI hope that not a foul because I just want to play and run wild.
My team mates see me sprint to slam dunktheir eyes are wide as I shoot and flyThe ball goes right through the hoop just as I hear the hoot
The crowd cheers and clapsbut then my mum yellswake up  you're really slack It was all a dream but I know that one day I will feel feel the gleam

Just like new

Walt : write a rap to share the facts on  a Ta’ovala.

Just like new

In the kingdom of Tonga
As a sign of respect
People wear Ta’ ovala
to a special place
to avoid family disgrace

To a funeral people wear black
If you don't you're really slack
On top of that you wear a decorated Ta’ ovala to make it flash

Ta’ ovala is passed from generation to generation
sometimes to another nation

Kiekie are the modern style
you wear it to birthdays
and even down the aisle

Homemade ones are the best
because they beat the rest
They are made from flax
and thats a fact
with lots of love
from deep down in the heart .

Prevention is better than cure

Prevention is better than cure

Today the Vodafone Warriors and nurses and doctors came to our school and they talked to us about sore throats and skin problems. An ex- warrior, Awen Guttenbeil told us about his experience with  rheumatic fever. He said when he was a little he didn't care about having a sore throat. When he was nine years old he got really sick and when his mum took him to the hospital. He was told that he had rheumatic fever. At our school we have a student who has rheumatic fever since she was 6 years old, once a month Crystal, the student has an injection.
Dr Alison Leversha who works in starship hospital told us how to stay healthy by being clean and cutting your nails so that the bacteria doesn't get stuck underneath your nails helps prevents you getting Rheumatic fever. We had a 25 minute talk and afterwards we went outside and got a poster signed by all three of the Warriors. The message is  if you feel sick, you've got to tell someone.”

Diggity

WALT: retell the story

Diggity

It was a beautiful day and Anna and her family decided to head to the beach but  they lost the lid  of the chilly bin. Anna and wanted to go the the beach and surf. So Anna grabbed her boogie board and Diggity is a blonde, energetic dog started to jumped and wiggled his tail. He poked out his pink slimy tongue, excited to have a day at the beach.

After a while later Anna’s mum found the chilly bin lid behind the washing machine. Anna and her family strolled on the beach and Anna ran to the clear blue sea to surf. After a couple of minutes later Anna came back  to play with Diggity, but she couldn’t find him. Dad and mum saw a brown dog on top of Diggity. They rushed to help him. When Anna saw Diggity she ran as fast as she could and saw dad trying to shoo the dog away. Diggity had blood all over his flawless fur and he was panicking. Dad quickly filled a bucket of water and threw it on the dog. The dog ran away and Diggity layed there with his bloody pink fur.

The family rushed Diggity to the vet. When the veterinarian saw Diggity he exclaimed that he lost a lot of blood. Anna and her family waited impatiently at home waiting for the veterinarian to call. When he called he said that Diggity was a fighter, but dad reckoned he had too many bones in the backyard to leave.

Reflective symmetry

In this game I had to find the symmetry lines of the shapes shown and then click on the shapes to find the answers. This was a very easy game because the shapes were really familiar. I would like to have more difficult tasks to do like maybe rotational shapes because I would like to challenge myself and learn new problems and find the solution.

Money Wise

WALT: write a response to the talk by Evan

Money wise

Evan came to our school yesterday and he taught us how to save money and spend correctly. It really made an impact on my my thinking and what I thought was wise because he showed us how to be wise with money correctly. I learned that only by putting a little amount of money each week you can have a lot by the end of the year. Evan told us some example of earning money like working for your neighbours or even do simple work around the house to pay for your wants and needs. One of his saying was “ spends some on you and save some,”. I liked listening to him because he had a nice personality and he was really funny which made everyone entertained.
